Yes, I have been gardening for 40 years! I won’t go into every detail—after all, I’m 60 and don’t remember everything—but I do want to share one memory that stands out.
I don’t recall my exact age, but I was likely in my teens since my family lived in that house for 20 years. One day, I noticed a small hill in the yard that was completely covered in poison ivy. I decided to rip it all out—big mistake! I broke out all over my body, and let me tell you, I learned my lesson the hard way.
After clearing the area (and recovering from the rash), I decided to plant zucchini seeds. I didn’t plant them right away, but once I did, I was amazed—I ended up growing the biggest zucchinis I had ever seen! I believe they thrived because the soil was soft after removing the poison ivy, and I used Miracle-Gro to give them a boost.
I truly miss that yard. Over the years, I grew tomatoes, beans, peas, and different types of flowers. One of my favorites was impatiens—I had some of the biggest and most beautiful ones.
